PicoBNC+ 2000 A AC/DC current clamp

£195.00

The 2000A current clamp provides high-current AC/DC measurement for starter motor, EV and hybrid diagnostics.

The wide range of this clamp allows currents from under 1 A right up to 2000 A to be measured. It can be used with a PicoScope for many applications including:

Battery testing with PicoDiagnostics software
Relative compression testing
Starter motor testing
Alternator output testing
Hybrid and EV electric motor current

The 2000 A clamp also features auto-ranging allowing the TA388 to be used many applications where a “low amps” clamp would normally be required such as checking injector and ignition current.

Description

The 2000 A current clamp allows you to measure up to 2000 amps without cutting, or disconnecting or stripping wires. Simply clamp the jaws around the cable to be tested and plug the clamp into your PicoScope.

The TA388 has a specification to match our popular TA167 200A/2000A clamp but fitted with a PicoBNC+ interface. The clamp can be auto-configured by PicoScope software when connected to the scope. Ranging is carried out automatically with no user switching required. The clamp is powered via the scope and therefore does not require any batteries. Additionally, the clamp is auto-zeroed whenever connected to the scope.

These current clamps have been designed for use with PicoScope oscilloscopes and feature additional screening to reduce noise pickup. The Pico TA388 current clamp can either be purchased as an accessory within one of our popular diagnostic kits or individually but requires a PicoScope featuring the PicoBNC+ such as the 4225A or 4425A.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do I need a 2000A clamp instead of a 60A clamp?

The 2000A clamp is needed for high-current circuits: starter motor cranking current (typically 100-400A), EV battery circuits, and large actuator motors. The 60A clamp is more sensitive for lower-current measurements like injector circuits, fuel pumps, and sensor supplies. Many workshops use both. Both are included in the master kit.

Is it compatible with my PicoScope?

Yes. The 2000A clamp uses the PicoBNC+ interface with automatic probe recognition. It works with the 4425A and 4823 oscilloscopes. PicoScope 7 software automatically configures the correct current scaling.

Which PicoScope kits include this clamp?

The master kit and EV diagnostic kit include the 2000A current clamp. For other kits, it can be purchased as a separate upgrade. Full specifications at picoauto.com.
